The overall objective of this programme is to provide you with the skills to become an employable and effective aerospace engineer within a national and international context. It is designed to prepare you for a wide range of career possibilities by developing particular graduate attributes which will be of on-going benefit to you, your industry and society as a whole.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) (Hons) programme can be completed in a minimum of 32 months (Level 3 & 4) in Singapore.

Residential Visits

The degree structure allows students to fly to Australia to attend two one-week on-campus workshops in Melbourne to gain practical hands-on experience. Students will access a wide range of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities at RMIT including; a full scale industrial aircraft wind tunnel, advanced manufacturing precinct, renewable energy park, composites laboratories and a virtual flight stimulator. Students will also benefit from field trips to RMIT’s industry partners.

The workshops must be undertaken during the programme of study. Students must complete all activities within the workshop in order to become eligible to graduate. There is no additional dee for attending this workshop, however, students will be responsible for making their own travel and accomodation.

Honours Award

Honours in the degree will be awarded based on the total marks of all programmes in accordance with the university course regulations.

The part time offering of the RMIT programme at Kaplan involves a 192 credit point extension (equivalent to two years of the full four year programme) for students who have completed an approved Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a Singapore Polytechnic, or an equivalent qualification. Other qualifications offered by non-Singapore based institutions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by RMIT. Final decision lies with the University.

Delivery Method

Each Trimester Session is a 16 week period covering the required programme of study. Each Trimester Session is provided with 36 hours of seminars, taught by university Lecturers with local support.

 

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods vary in accordance with the aims and outcomes of a specific topic or programme, but frequently involve a combination of in-programme assessment and formal end of academic session written examinations. In addition group and individual projects, in-programme tests, group and individual presentations, reports, quantitative analysis and essays are all used at some point during the programmes. For all assessments except in-programme tests, students receive detailed feedback from the examiner in a standardised format.

Students who successfully complete and pass the modules stipulated in the course structure will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) (Honours) from RMIT University.

The degree awards will be the same as that awarded to the on-campus graduates.

The tuition fee covers study guides, intensive seminars and workshops, assignments, examination (if applicable), projects, degree (if earned) and transcript.

Students will access a wide range of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities at RMIT including; a full scale industrial aircraft wind tunnel, advanced manufacturing precinct, renewable energy park, composites laboratories and a virtual flight simulator. Students will also benefit from field trips to RMIT's industry partners, such as The Wonthaggi Desalination Plant. RMIT believes in a practical based learning approach, so that students are able to learn the skills to be a professional engineer.
