Master of Education with specialisation in Early Childhood

Structure and Content

The MEd (Early Childhood) program consists of 6 courses, which may be completed in 18 months as follows:

EDF6601  Studies in Special Education - Inclusion 
EDF6643  Values in Early Childhood 
EDF6642  Contexts for Childhood 
EDF6641  Social and Political Contexts of Early Childhood 
EDF6010  Professional Project 

Entry Requirement

Applicants must hold an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year; or an approved fourth year of study; or an approved four year bachelors degree; or have qualifications or experience that the faculty considers to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for the above.

 

Applicants who are not native speakers of English will be required to demonstrate substantial competence in written and spoken English by one of the approved methods before admission:

 

  • An overall IELTS (academic) of at least 6.5 with at least 6.5 on reading and listening and at least 6.0 on writing and speaking;

OR

  • Paper-based TOEFL score of at least 580 with a TWE of at least 4.5, or an internet-based score of at least 90 with at least 22 on writing and speaking and 20 on listening and reading. [Note: a computer-based TOEFL score of at least 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of at least 4.5 will be accepted for entry in 2008, but it is no longer valid from 2009 onwards.]

 

Note: (1)English language requirements AND acedemic requirements must BOTH be fulfilled to be considered for admission into a postgraduate course. (2)Any test scores must be no more than 2 years old at the time of commencement of the course of intended enrollment.

Delivery Method

The program provides a total of 120 seminar/workshop hours; or 20 hours per unit delivered 100% by Monash University faculty. Each course will be delivered independently over a 3-month period. Classes are generally held after office hours in the evening / or over weekends/public holidays.

Assessment Methods

Each course will be assessed by assignments, case studies, and reports at the discretion of the University professors.

Graduation and Degree

Already 15 successful intakes in Singapore. Graduates will be allowed to use the title MEd (Monash) after their names. The degree will be the same as that awarded to on-campus students of the University.
