Workplace Skills (WPS)

The Workplace Skills (WPS) Series is part of the WSQ Employability Skills (ES) framework and programmes are offered at two occupational levels – Operational and Supervisory. The WPS training modules may also be taken individually to address specific gaps in current skills.

Level 1

This programme will enable individuals to identify the global trends and changes impacting the workplace, apply lifelong learning to adapt to changes for sustained employability, and share knowledge and skills to enhance productivity and effectiveness in a diverse workplace.

This programme will enable individuals to apply 5S procedures (a structured approach to housekeeping) to their own job and work area. This will include SEIRI (Clearing unnecessary items from work area), SEITON (Organising work area in an orderly manner), SEISO (Cleaning work area), SEIKESTU (Maintaining work area cleanliness) and SHITSUKE (Maintaining self-discipline in work area).

This programme will enable individuals to be able to use effective communication techniques to interpret, clarify, analyse and respond to information received, and use effective negotiation skills to resolve conflicts for a win-win outcome, taking into consideration social and cultural differences.

This Demonstrate Initiative & Enterprising Behaviours module is designed to help the individual function effectively as an independent thinking adult in the workplace and focuses on the importance of initiative and enterprise in the context of his/her work scope, responsibility, accountability, authority and expertise.

This programme focuses on how an individual can demonstrate innovation and initiative to  initiate and sustain continuous improvement at the workplace while identifying, evaluating and managing risks associated with innovating and taking initiative at an individual level.

This module facilitates the development of personal competence so that individuals can manage their lives and work efficiently. The module focuses on the development of life skills necessary to maintain a balance between work and personal responsibilities. It also addresses the skills needed for gaining and maintaining employment by relating to an organisation’s goals and priorities. Examples of the knowledge and skills individuals will acquire are: establishing personal goals and complying with team goals, managing time effectively, maintaining work-life balance, managing stress and personal finances.

This programme focuses on how an individual can acquire the techniques in problem-solving and decision-making, including proactively identifying root causes to a problem, generating and evaluating alternative solutions, making appropriate decisions, and taking responsibility for the decisions within own circle of influence.
