Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Awards 2020 Recipient
Murdoch University Graduate, Valedictorian (2020)

My decision to study Psychology and Human Resource Management was influenced during my days serving National Service. I was posted to a manpower department within an army unit and exposed to the nature and workings of human resources. I learnt how every process, framework and system contributed to the overall HR strategy and ultimately, the goals of the unit. This sparked my interest in wanting to learn more about Human Resources.

I decided on a Double Major Degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management with Murdoch University as it is an internationally recognised University. My choice of this Double Major not only combined both my interests, I believe it will offer wider career prospects and give me the competitive advantage for my future career. For the same reason, I would recommend others to take this up as well.

Through its partnership with Kaplan in Singapore, Murdoch University offers an accelerated university education that provides the same Degree qualification as its Australia campus. This programme can be completed in a shorter timeframe of 2 years instead of the usual 3 to 4 years at other universities. Therefore, I believe it is a suitable choice for students aiming for career progression.

In terms of learning, the lecturers were open to discussions and feedback about their teaching and encouraged discussions and participations during the lectures to ensure we were engaged. They were also helpful and patient in giving advice when we faced issues with assignments. There were even instances when lecturers would sacrifice their free time during breaks or after classes to ensure we understood the module.

Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Awards 2019 Recipient

I’ve always been interested in Psychology, especially with regards to understanding the human mind and rationale behind our actions. Like many others, I initially entered the field for the purposes of self-discovery. Over time however, I developed a passion for understanding the behaviour of others and using that knowledge to help them instead.

My educational journey has peaked with me receiving the Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Award, and I attribute my achievement to the friends who supported me along the way. This experience has motivated me to take pride in my accomplishments and excel even further, and I’ve learnt to focus on outdoing and improving myself.

I believe that Murdoch University offers one of the best Psychology programmes for me. In fact, I decided to continue advancing my education to a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Psychology with Murdoch University. Not only is it a natural progression of my studies, it also provides me opportunities to study overseas. By doing so, I can be better prepared to undertake research roles in the future as well.

I plan to begin building my career as well as prepare myself to pass the Medical College Admission Test after graduating. Eventually, I aim to enrol in a medical school so I can achieve my ambition to become a psychiatrist.

Formerly pursuing a career in hospitality, I decided to study Psychology as I wanted a fulfilling career helping children with special needs. Murdoch University is a recognised institution, and many of my friends have studied there and recommended it to me. Subsequently, I decided to take up a Murdoch Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Degree programme.

As it provides a comprehensive curriculum, my Murdoch Degree studies have improved my understanding of the psychological challenges of the children I work with, enabling me to develop better techniques to help them.

The lecturers play a key role in my education by being helpful and approachable, and teaching us in a structured and articulate manner. They are even willing to share about their personal work experiences as a reference point to advise us on our future careers in Psychology.

I believe that Murdoch University is a reliable and recognised institution which offers a broad and practical Psychology education for students studying mental health, one that is applicable to real-life scenarios.

Northumbria University 1st Class Honours Graduate (2019)

As Northumbria University is recognised for their outstanding teaching, I felt confident about pursuing my Degree here. The lecturers are experts in their respective professional fields who share their experiences and knowledge with us relating to childhood studies.

Changing childhoods is one of the relevant modules applicable to my current job. It explores the experiences of children and shapes the perspective that they are to be protected, loved and respected. My Degree helps me analyse these concepts of children and youths which are held by society, as a whole. Such concepts are likely to be engrained in people’s minds and possibly translate into policies that directly impact the youth. Through understanding children, it empowers us to care for them.

This programme serves as a stepping-stone for those who wish to work with children and youths, and expands one’s career opportunities in the education sector.

Upon completion of my Advanced Diploma, I aspired to continue learning and upgrading my skills to advance my career. Hence, I made my choice to pursue a Monash University Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Degree. With this internationally-recognised qualification, it is especially advantageous in my industry for career development.

While I was previously enrolled in another university, the convenient location of Monash University at Kaplan and its flexible programme study schedules convinced me to enrol for its programme instead. These factors allowed me to spend time with my family and focus on my job while studying simultaneously.

The new thought processes and perspectives imparted to me by the lecturers helped to enhance my critical and creative thinking. In fact, I was promoted to the position of Principal of my school during my studies.

For these reasons, I would gladly recommend Monash University to others.

The programme not only kept me abreast of the latest research and developments in my field, it elevated my self-awareness, allowing me to identify my work preferences, and guided me towards my next career of choice.

The lecturers flew into Singapore to teach every 3 months and they were nothing short of brilliant and engaging, ensuring that every lesson was enjoyable, relatable and practical. Even when they were not in Singapore, it was easy to keep in constant contact via Moodle.

Looking back, I’m glad I decided to study with Monash not only because of their rankings, study schedule or the fact that it is an assignment-based programme, I appreciate the many resources they provided and the good learning pace for working adults. I am also grateful to my friend for recommending this programme to me.
