I believe that pursuing an MBA is necessary to help one get ahead in their career and open up better opportunities for them. Knowing how to manage firms, businesses and capital is key to gaining industry exposure and developing business ideas.

The Double Masters programme, encompassing the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Human Resources Management, has helped me to build my human resources skill set. Having this Degree, combined with the benefits of an MBA focused on human resources management, has enabled me to set myself apart from my peers in this competitive hiring landscape.

The programme has given me unique points of view and helped to address business management strategy and human resource concerns. Indeed, it is a versatile qualification that has taught me how to deal with hiring, training and development as well as general people skills, allowing me to apply my knowledge and skill set professionally.

My favourite aspect of this programme was how it had increased my self-confidence. This accomplishment coupled with the skill set and education gained, may help to improve one’s confidence as they are better able to make their way in the business world and in life.

Furthermore, I have become more versatile and skilled, as most of the soft and hard skills I had acquired from this course, such as analytical and critical thinking, communication, creativity and leadership, are applicable across different industries.

To those who are considering pursuing a Postgraduate Degree, if you are committed enough and aspire to pass it with rainbow colours, you definitely will.

After 5 years of training in performance subjects, I spent 12 years in the performing arts industry, as a teaching artist, producer and an arts manager. Consequently, my curiosity about the performing arts business grew and wanted to advance in the areas of leadership and strategy. Here, the EMLSI was a great fit. As the pandemic loomed large, the idea of upskilling and expanding my knowledge from the comfort of home became appealing.

Being based in Singapore while still being able to access a highly reputable, international institute (Murdoch University) was a huge plus. I had explored leadership master’s programmes all over the map, but many needed me to move abroad as they were unavailable online, and others required me to vastly reduce the hours I could commit to work. The Murdoch course lined up perfectly with my own schedule and working in the same time zone between Singapore and Perth was ideal.

In any industry, the opportunity to ‘climb the ladder’ stems from your work ethic, knowledge and experience. Within the arts charity sector, it is vital to learn how to run a strong, successful business. Thus, managing an arts business efficiently through effective leadership, clear strategy and harnessing tools for innovation are necessary for continual growth.

As an arts education manager working with a theatre company, I must be able to mentor my team well, demonstrate resilience in the face of uncertainty and be ready to adopt new ways of working. Indeed, the EMLSI not only provided me with a great deal of applicable knowledge and tools, but inspired me to continue learning.

Murdoch University Graduate (2019)

Endeavouring to improve my education and hone my competitive edge, I sought a Double Major to broaden my career options within various industries and expand my horizons. I chose Murdoch University, a renowned institution that offered a Communication and Media Studies and Public Relations Double Major Degree programme.

The programme was taught by quality lecturers who were supportive and adept in their knowledge. They imparted skills directly applicable to my career in the PR industry and encouraged us every step of the way.

Of the various modules taught, I found the Campaign Management module to be most effective in my role as a Public Relations & Marketing Executive. It provides professional PR skills through practical experience, requiring us to work in teams to craft our own PR strategy and communication plans.

Thanks to the recognition of Murdoch University and my Double Major qualification, I have personally noticed that, since graduating, I was offered more employment opportunities than before and had no difficulty securing jobs. As such, I definitely recommend Murdoch University.

Murdoch University was my choice, as my siblings had attained their Degrees with the University and had a very positive experience. Furthermore, the flexible part-time programme is perfect for working adults like me, so we can manage our time and set some aside for our studies.

I decided to pursue a Double Major because having a second major in Marketing would serve as a safeguard, should I want to switch industries or careers.

The two specialisations appealed to my immense interest in Tourism and Events, as well as in Marketing. Furthermore, as Tourism and Marketing are closely linked, a second major in Marketing would enhance and be easy to integrate with the knowledge from my Tourism and Events modules.

As lessons are conducted in the evening, I do not have to worry about missing classes because of my day job. The lecturers are also very understanding of our work commitments. All of this has made my part-time academic journey with Murdoch easier and more enjoyable.

I would recommend Murdoch University to others because of the prestige and recognition of the University’s Degree programmes and certifications, and the flexibility and understanding provided by the University and staff. In addition, the curriculum is constantly being reviewed and updated to ensure that students gain the latest, most relevant knowledge in their respective majors or fields, and I have genuinely enjoyed my academic journey with Murdoch.

I would also recommend the Double Major Degrees with the University, as they are planned such that anyone will be able to cope with the workload. Moreover, they give students an advantage over their single major peers when it comes to career prospects and progression.

I found a new job as a Cyber Security Analyst while pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree programme. Quite interestingly, the fact that I was about to complete my Degree actually helped me negotiate a significant starting salary.

The module, Cyber Forensics and Information Technology, gave me very useful insights into the way Cyber Forensics is practised in the industry. It also provided me with a thorough understanding of commonly used tools.

The module, Information Security Policy and Governance, has enhanced my understanding of policy creation, and how one could identify and manage risks – these are really important for cyber security practitioners to know and start applying.

During my study with Murdoch University, I attended lessons online due to the pandemic. This has helped me to focus on my studies as well as save time as I was able to head home after work for dinner before lessons.

As for the lecturers, they were very helpful and engaging – giving us very useful feedback and advice to improve our understanding and appreciation of the subject matter.

Murdoch University Graduate (2019)

Even with a Diploma from Temasek Polytechnic, I chose not to rest on my laurels. I believe that furthering my studies would provide new knowledge in different fields and as such, decided to upgrade myself with a Degree.

I eventually chose Murdoch University as it was recommended by my colleagues. As their Degrees were recognised by my organisation, the Degree would grant me an advantage and opportunities for advancements in my workplace.

I really like the University’s teaching methods, especially the smaller classes which allowed a more focused education with the lecturers, allowing them to familiarise themselves and communicate better with the students.

Murdoch’s flexible study allows me to attend classes after work. Overall, I am satisfied with my choice as the Degree programme has helped me build confidence in developing and presenting my ideas, and I definitely recommend enrolling with Murdoch University to upgrade yourself.

I have found that a Postgraduate Degree does not just open up job opportunities for me in my area of study. In fact, it will facilitate my career transition to more senior management positions and leadership roles.

The Postgraduate programme helped me to improve my research, writing and analysis skills. As a result, I have become a better problem solver who can tackle complex projects with more ease. The programme also prepared me for a life of constant learning. As a graduate student, I connected with professionals who are successful in their careers. That has provided me with real-world knowledge through a valuable network of professionals. Furthermore, I achieved a promotion after graduating with my Postgraduate Degree and was offered a change to my job scope in Marketing.

I have never second guessed my choice to study a Postgraduate Degree with Murdoch University at Kaplan in Singapore. I really liked the course structure, and the quality of some of Kaplan’s lecturers was a highlight of my University experience. I also love how students have access to various courses through the very user-friendly online learning portal, where I could find daily lectures, assignments, task details, tutorials and listen to online recordings whenever I need to.

I have always aimed to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and when I was researching for a good university to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree, I came across Murdoch University that offers direct entry into the CPA Australia programme. Additionally, I managed to graduate with my Degree in 16 months due to exemptions obtained from my Diploma.

Being able to choose the modules and respective classes to take gave me a great deal of flexibility and allowed me to manage my time between work and school well, given that I worked full-time while studying part-time.

Upon attaining my Degree, I switched to a new job as a Tax Associate in one of the big four accounting firms.

The lecturers are extremely knowledgeable and approachable. They go out of their way to help students who have difficulty understanding certain topics, and are friendly and helpful. I was able to approach my lecturers without any hesitation with queries regarding my studies. Despite the sudden switch to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were able to deliver the lessons in a very articulate manner.

I would recommend Murdoch to others as I learnt so much with the University, mainly because of the lecturers. Every class conducted was interactive, very thought-provoking and did not leave you merely memorising stuff, which I felt contributed strongly to academic excellence.
