The Northumbria University Bachelor Degree in Mass Communications with Public Relations was an easy choice. The programme had a very clear direction and was in-line with my goal to provide more academic depth to my profession in Marketing.

The curriculum was intense but manageable for a full-time working adult like myself as it allows one to take their time to process concepts and theories, before applying them in a creative manner. It provided the flexibility of time to conduct my reading and research, resulting in me developing a stronger argument in my thesis and essays.

As Northumbria University is recognised for their outstanding teaching, I felt confident about pursuing my Degree here. The lecturers are experts in their respective professional fields who share their experiences and knowledge with us relating to childhood studies.

Changing childhoods is one of the relevant modules applicable to my current job. It explores the experiences of children and shapes the perspective that they are to be protected, loved and respected. My Degree helps me analyse these concepts of children and youths which are held by society, as a whole. Such concepts are likely to be engrained in people’s minds and possibly translate into policies that directly impact the youth. Through understanding children, it empowers us to care for them.

This programme serves as a stepping-stone for those who wish to work with children and youths, and expands one’s career opportunities in the education sector.

Choosing Northumbria University was an easy decision. I was excited at the prospect of enrolling into a direct Honours programme that could be completed in under two years with no additional bridging required. Moreover, this programme was assignment-based which suited my interests better.

The modules are very relevant and focus on issues and topics that affect businesses and the economy. Also, the curriculum and project submissions were extremely manageable as we were provided ample time to work on researching and understanding theories, concepts and real-life situations.

I would highly recommend Northumbria University to my peers as the lecturers here were understanding and willing to guide students through every step of the learning process. Additionally, the school is centrally located and there are plenty of spaces for conducive learning or discussion outside of the classroom, such as the library and study areas.

Northumbria University was a natural choice for me as it holds Double AACSB Accreditations and offers a brisk curriculum which only takes 16 months to complete, allowing minimal disruption to my work.

In addition, the study schedule is convenient for working adults, with 2 to 3 classes weekly and the remaining days used for research and completion of the assignment. Even though it is a part-time programme, it is important to spend those non-school days for research. It was not easy but as I reflect, it was a fun experience nonetheless.

If you are looking for a programme that provides engaging lectures while allowing for flexibility of schedule, I highly recommend Northumbria University.

What drove me to pursue my MBA was the desire to gain new knowledge and learnings that are relevant to what I do in my current job.

The modules covered were very relevant and were the most beneficial part of the programme to me, and they helped me gain the knowledge necessary to lead my business. The programme allowed me to apply what I had learned in real work situations, such as in managing people, financial management and strategy planning.

For example, in the Strategic Marketing module, the various theories and models related to branding helped me to review and apply my internal and external brand positioning in my business. In the module, Managing in the Digital Economy, I learned to relate strategic issues such as technology adoption, digital marketing platforms and more, and consider how these could be broadly applied across business lines.

Furthermore, there was the opportunity to learn through group discussions and research work. As part of my assignment in the Leader Identity and Leadership module, I had the opportunity to interview a leader to understand his challenges and analyse his leadership style. Through this, I could reflect on my own leadership style.

My advice to those thinking of pursuing an MBA is to be mentally prepared that the end goal is not just the certificate, but the opportunity to expand one’s learnings and business knowledge through classes, study groups and research. Networking is certainly the best part about taking up an MBA programme. I had a regular study group where we met up regularly to catch up about work, apart from discussing assignments.

In my opinion, those who aspire to grow into a leadership role should take up this MBA programme.

I decided to study with Northumbria University at Kaplan in Singapore as it is among the top 1% of elite institutions worldwide*. I was also attracted to the largely assignment-based learning, which allowed me to better plan my time around my work schedule to complete and submit assignments. As for my choice of major, I chose it as it is related to my current job and I wanted to enhance my knowledge in the field.

The programme has helped to strengthen my job performance. With its assignment-based curriculum, it gave us a more practical education, allowing students to apply the knowledge learned in classes through the assignments given, which were similar to projects assigned at work. In addition, all the research done based on real companies or situations gave me much exposure to current market sentiments and trends, to learn and improve on some “outdated” practices.

Given the good reputation of Kaplan and its collaboration with reputable universities, taught by very knowledgeable lecturers, I would recommend Kaplan.

This Degree has been vital in opening up new opportunities for me, and would provide a boost in my career progression to management level and beyond.  The assignment based learning approach helped bridge the huge academic learning gap from Diploma to Degree. Several modules have proven extremely useful and ideal for my role as an Operations Executive, where I work towards optimising productivity for a cohesive operation.

With its experienced lecturers and a well-balanced curriculum, my Northumbria University education at Kaplan has allowed me to simultaneously manage my assignments and work. In addition to its easily accessible location, Kaplan’s renowned reputation was a major factor for me when deciding on which institution to enrol in. I have since recommended fellow colleagues to enrol in this programme, as I believe it will aid in their career advancement.

I decided on Northumbria University because I liked the University’s approach to my programme, even within each module; and I chose my major because it perfectly complemented my career aspirations.

The programme has helped enhance my job performance. I now take steps towards self-improvement in my problem areas and continuously learn by setting personal benchmarks and reviewing them regularly. Learning leads to a better quality of life, boosts confidence and aids in personal development.

I would recommend my University to others as my overall experience was fantastic! I made a great group of friends as my class was big, and we always had laughs with the tutors.

Thanks to my tutors’ help and the content delivered, I exceeded my own expectations by achieving excellent grades. The lessons are completely related to the job you want to do, and the programme has made me rethink what career I want to pursue because it has opened the door to so many higher-paying jobs!
