Pursuing the Bachelor of Laws with Birmingham City University through Kaplan marked a deeply fulfilling milestone in my lifelong journey of self-investment. Having previously earned Degrees in Psychology and an MBA at Kaplan, I have always held the conviction that the best investment one can make is to invest in oneself. Law had long been a passion of mine, but full-time study was not feasible due to family and financial responsibilities. The curriculum, supported by empathetic lecturers and a hybrid learning model, provided me with not only foundational legal understanding but also practical reasoning skills that serve both my business and daily life. 

Despite having to juggle fatherhood, home renovation, and professional changes, the journey was made manageable through resilience, family support, and Kaplan’s thoughtful structure. My educational journey with Kaplan first started with their Diploma, when I was fresh out of army and my highest qualification then was an O-Level certification. Kaplan provided me a platform to catch up with my peers in terms of educational timeline, while also allowing me to pursue and advance my career. This is now my third qualification with Kaplan, and I credit them for enabling me to advance academically and professionally. 

To anyone passionate about law or seeking to better navigate today’s complex legal landscape—I highly recommend this programme. It is not just a Degree; it is a transformative tool for empowerment.

I believe in continuous learning and self-improvement, which is why I pursued further studies to stay competitive in an evolving industry, gain new insights, and enhance my knowledge. Kaplan offers a well-structured and flexible programme that aligns with my career goals and allows me to study and work concurrently. The online learning platform and weekend classes have enabled me to effectively balance my personal commitments and academic goals.  

This programme is tailored to equip working professionals with practical skills that can be applied immediately in the workplace. For example, the curriculum is directly relevant to my role as a Workplace Experience Associate, enhancing my understanding of workplace dynamics, employee engagement, and productivity. Upon graduating from the programme, I experienced a noticeable shift in my responsibilities and the confidence my superiors placed in me. I was given more leadership opportunities, including overseeing larger projects related to workplace management and employee engagement, which is a direct result of the skills I have gained through my studies.

Returning to school and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in International Business at 49 proves that it is never too late to pursue my dreams. I chose Kaplan because it gave me the flexibility to balance full-time work, family responsibilities, and studies while earning a globally recognised qualification.  

Throughout the programme, I gained practical knowledge that I could immediately apply in my role as an Inside Sales Representative in the aviation industry. Modules such as International Business Environment and Strategic Management strengthened my understanding of global business practices, enhanced my communication with international customers and suppliers, and improved my analytical and decision-making skills. 

The support from Kaplan's lecturers, especially Armand, made a significant difference. His engaging teaching style and ability to connect theory with real-world business scenarios kept me motivated and gave me the confidence to succeed.

I have always been committed to continuous learning, which has been instrumental in advancing my career. Coming from a humble background, financial challenges required me to work while upgrading my education through part-time programmes. However, my deep interest in Law motivated me to pursue further studies, allowing me to overcome obstacles and progress in my career. 

Currently, I serve as the CEO of the Financial Planning Association of Singapore, and pursuing legal studies has significantly enhanced the effectiveness of my role. The modules on Conflict Resolution in Business, Corporate Criminality and Tax Evasion, and International Corporate Law have been particularly relevant, providing me with the knowledge to make informed decisions that ensure our organisation operates within legal boundaries. Throughout my studies, I have experienced career progression, including being headhunted for the role of General Manager with a focus on corporate governance improvement. The programme and assessment structures are well-organised and suit my working schedule. Kaplan’s and Birmingham City University’s reputation for academic excellence and producing highly skilled professionals also influenced my decision to enrol in this programme. 

I highly recommend this programme as my success at work is a testament to the programme’s effectiveness. While balancing work and studies can be challenging at times, it was important for me to recognise when to readjust my focus based on deadlines and workload. My journey in pursuing further studies has reinforced my belief that by following one’s interest and never giving up, one can overcome any obstacle. Courage dispels fear and perseverance leads to success.
