My academic journey did not follow the conventional path—and that is what makes it so meaningful. I made a promise to myself that if ever given the chance, I would pursue a Degree. Beyond the desire to upgrade myself, I wanted to push my limits and grow both personally and professionally. While researching Degree programmes, my cousin pointed out one at Northumbria University that aligned closely with my job. The best part? It was fully assignment-based.
Balancing full-time work and part-time studies was not easy. Attending on-campus classes after a long day, managing mental fatigue, and maintaining work-life balance were real challenges. Thankfully, the blended learning approach, flexibility, and conveniently located campus made a huge difference. The programme was thoughtfully structured to reduce stress, and the lecturers were incredibly supportive, even offering guidance beyond regular class hours.
This programme significantly sharpened my problem-solving skills and changed the way I approach my work. During my studies, I was considered for a promotion—a milestone that reflected my capabilities, achievements, and contributions at work.
I highly recommend this programme to anyone considering furthering their education. Its real-world relevance and flexibility made the experience not just manageable, but truly rewarding.

While exploring opportunities to further my studies, I came across the Kaplan Open House and decided to attend. Among the options available, the Honours Degree by Northumbria University stood out for its compact 8-month duration and its unique combination of Mass Communications and Public Relations.
I took a leap of faith to return to school after more than 18 years, and the experience was both humbling and empowering. As the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Naturali, a growing sustainable FMCG brand, effective communication with mass consumers is critical. This Degree provided practical knowledge on managing public relations from a business perspective, which directly enhanced how I approach brand messaging, stakeholder management, and consumer trust. All five modules contributed to my growth, but the Media Dissertation had the most impact.
Despite having no prior academic background in mass communications or public relations, I challenged myself to complete a dissertation on greenwashing – a topic relevant to my business – and achieved a distinction. The findings even influenced revisions to my advertisements and packaging, ensuring brand integrity and transparency.
Kaplan and Northumbria University supported me by providing clear timetables and expectations, which made balancing work and study easier. Beyond academics, the programme renewed my sense of purpose, a reminder that learning does not stop with age or career seniority. Growth begins when we dare to start again with a curious mind and a willing heart.

My decision to pursue further studies was driven by a desire to deepen my knowledge in early childhood education, support my professional development, and improve my career prospects—including the potential for a salary increase. After researching online and reading many positive reviews, I felt confident in choosing this programme.
The curriculum was thoughtfully designed, blending theory with practical applications. The Play and the Early Years Curriculum module was particularly helpful as it deepened my understanding of play in child development and gave me practical strategies I now apply in my classroom to enhance children’s learning outcomes.
Studying while working full-time was challenging but rewarding. The University and Kaplan made it manageable through engaging lectures and a supportive learning environment. The inspiring stories and real-life experiences shared by lecturers helped sustain my motivation.
Since completing the programme, I have experienced career progression, an increase in pay, and greater responsibilities at work. I have gained deeper insights, new skills, and the confidence to contribute more meaningfully to my team. One of the highlights was connecting with peers who shared my passion, which fostered a strong sense of community and personal growth.
