Monash University Graduate (2020)

I took up the Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood as I have a passion for educating young minds and to enhance my understanding of my role as an educator. I would recommend Monash University given its flexible schedule that is most suitable for working teachers.

Some important lessons that the programme taught me include time management, a skill which was crucial in ensuring that I met my assignments’ deadlines; and perseverance, as it being a part-time programme meant that I had to juggle meeting deadlines, attending lectures, contributing to class discussions and my job.

I truly believe that the programme has helped me to excel at my job by allowing me to apply what I have learnt during my course. It has also helped me identify solutions to the challenges I face at work.

Monash University Graduate (2020)

It has always been my passion to educate children, to help them cultivate a love of learning and set them up for a lifetime of success and well-being. Therefore, I chose to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood at Monash University.

Monash University was my top choice. Being an international school, it offers a diverse range of courses and served as a platform to develop my creativity, openness, courage, flexibility and cultural awareness. The University also covers the required skills related to the field and ensures that students gain practical experiences through mandatory fieldwork placements.

The programme has taught me the importance of relationship-building. As an educator, one needs to manage the relationships one has with parents, community members and other professions, to determine what is best for the children.

I would recommend Monash University to others, as the staff is very supportive of the student community, especially in terms of career development and student engagement.

Monash University Graduate (2020)

I decided to further my studies to pursue my dream of helping those in need, and because of my conviction in continuous learning and development. Monash University was my first option as it is one of the top public universities in Australia, and one that is highly respected.

Skills such as interpersonal and attentive listening, and effective communication to build trust are paramount to my role as a Principal Manager. These skills have helped me to be more empathetic to ground views, identify issues, resolve conflicts, and interact with various stakeholders effectively. What I am most grateful for is how the programme has prepared me for the unknown. In my volunteer role during the COVID-19 period, the skills were useful in helping those whose mental well-being was at stake.

Monash University’s teaching methodology, the dedicated and caring lecturers who made themselves easily accessible despite the time difference, and the diverse student population made my time there engaging, interesting and made it possible for me to achieve my goal. My answer is a resounding “yes”, if asked whether I would recommend my University to others – a quality education at a reasonable cost.

Intending to progress my career, I chose this programme for its duration and flexible scheduling, as well as the renowned reputation of Monash University for early childhood education. I have also come to appreciate the value of its learning, and the relatable modules were very useful for my work. In particular, the literacy, arts and interdisciplinary modules has further deepened my professional knowledge in working with children and their families.

The quality of the learning was no doubt bolstered by the great lecturers who made efforts to engage us in lessons and provide a welcoming and informative learning environment. The campus location was convenient too, as Kaplan is ideally located in the city.

Upon completion of my Advanced Diploma, I aspired to continue learning and upgrading my skills to advance my career. Hence, I made my choice to pursue a Monash University Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Degree. With this internationally-recognised qualification, it is especially advantageous in my industry for career development.

While I was previously enrolled in another university, the convenient location of Monash University at Kaplan and its flexible programme study schedules convinced me to enrol for its programme instead. These factors allowed me to spend time with my family and focus on my job while studying simultaneously.

The new thought processes and perspectives imparted to me by the lecturers helped to enhance my critical and creative thinking. In fact, I was promoted to the position of Principal of my school during my studies.

For these reasons, I would gladly recommend Monash University to others.

At 60 years old and having worked as an educator for over 30 years, I wanted to upgrade my skills. I knew it would be quite challenging to do so, but with support from my colleagues and my own self-determination, I took action to learn and better myself towards becoming a good leader.

I chose to study the Master of Leadership in Organisational Learning with the renowned Monash University, to enhance my leadership skills in the education field, and especially to assist me in my role as a Co-Principal.

As I am also working full-time, the flexible study schedule allowed me to study simultaneously. In addition, with the programme exclusively taught by fly-in Monash faculty from Australia, I feel that I have gained so much relevant knowledge for my career, especially from the Inner Leadership and the Leadership Challenge modules.

The programme not only kept me abreast of the latest research and developments in my field, it elevated my self-awareness, allowing me to identify my work preferences, and guided me towards my next career of choice.

The lecturers flew into Singapore to teach every 3 months and they were nothing short of brilliant and engaging, ensuring that every lesson was enjoyable, relatable and practical. Even when they were not in Singapore, it was easy to keep in constant contact via Moodle.

Looking back, I’m glad I decided to study with Monash not only because of their rankings, study schedule or the fact that it is an assignment-based programme, I appreciate the many resources they provided and the good learning pace for working adults. I am also grateful to my friend for recommending this programme to me.

During my research for a suitable programme, I was torn between doing an MBA or the Masters in Education. I was keen to pick up a programme that would further my career in my industry of passion. The Masters of Education ticked most of my criteria. It allowed me to study on topics that were directly related to my line of work and gave me balance between research work and real-world application of that research.

The programme not only enhanced my credibility as an educator and learning specialist, but also deepened my insights into educational decision-making processes that my clients employ. This, in turn, has helped me greatly in my current role as an Assistant Solutions Director for a Regional Education Solutions Provider, where I work closely with senior managers and C-Suite level decision makers in higher educational and professional education institutes regionally.
