The Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) programme is for students with a Nursing registration and a valid practising certificate, issued by the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB), wishing to advance their study from a Diploma to a Bachelor’s Degree, designed for post-registration nurses.
The Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) programme comprises eight modules that are particularly relevant to Nursing in Singapore. These modules are Research as Evidence for Nursing Practice, Teaching and Learning, An Introduction to Mental Wellbeing and Recovery, Health Promotion, Healthcare Law and Ethics, Nursing Older People with Complex Needs, Health Assessment and Clinical Decision Making, and Leading and Developing Practice.
The Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) Degree supports the ongoing development of Registered Nurses and incorporates the following SNB guidance and regulations:
- Code for Nurses and Midwives (SNB, 2018)2
- Core Competencies of Registered Nurse (SNB, 2023)3
- Scope of Professional Nursing and Midwifery Practice (SNB, 2023)4
In addition, the programme is designed following the Standards for Nurse Education (SNB, 2019b)5 and Curriculum Requirements for Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration) (SNB, 2018c)6 to meet the requirements of SNB, Singapore’s Healthcare sector and the population.
Students who complete the Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) programme will be equipped with the skills needed to strengthen the current Nursing workforce in Singapore, and boost productivity and efficiency in a sector impacted by a shortage of staff.
Graduates will also be well-positioned to play leading roles in the evolving Healthcare sector, from improving health literacy to positively impacting the community as evidence-based practitioners promoting multi-disciplinary care.
Graduation & Degree Awarded
Students who successfully complete and pass the modules stipulated in the programme structure will be awarded the Bachelor of Science Nursing from Northumbria University, United Kingdom.
Graduates are invited to attend both the prestigious graduation ceremonies7 in the UK and Singapore, giving you the best of both worlds.

Admission CriteriaAcademic Requirements
This Degree programme accepts the following qualifications:
- Nursing Diploma qualification awarded by an approved Higher Education Institution; AND
- Registered Nurses with a valid practising certificate (full and conditional registration only) from the Singapore Nursing Board
English Language Requirements- IELTS 6.5 or equivalent; OR
- Completion of at least 2 years of study in English at a Higher Education level at any approved institutions; OR
- Any English proficiency test approved by the University
In all cases, the final decision on admission to the programme rests with the University.
Work Experience- Post-registration nursing experience (with evidence of continuing professional development)
