Industry Advisory Boards (IAB)

Kaplan Industry Advisory Boards (IAB) were established as a pioneering initiative to ensure KHEA’s programmes remain aligned with industry needs.

Comprising experts from various sectors, IAB members provide valuable insights into employment trends and the skills employers seek in graduates. They also collaborate on initiatives such as industry talks, and Kaplan Industry Projects to enhance student learning and career readiness.

The three Industry Advisory Boards are structured to complement KHEA’s academic framework, further enriching students’ educational and professional development. The boards are:

  • Business, Communication & Law.
  • Engineering & IT and
  • Health & Social Sciences

Professional Development

SEA supports students in building essential career skills through workshops and recruitment talks. These initiatives help students craft strong resumes, refine interview techniques, enhance networking abilities, and develop a professional online presence. Industry experts and employers provide valuable insights, equipping students with the knowledge and connections needed for career success.

4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) Courses

The 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) Courses encapsulate a wide range of soft and technical skills. The courses are catered to supplement students’ academic training and prepare them for the future of work. The 4IR courses are carefully selected to equip students with interpersonal, digital and practical skills that are industry relevant.

Kaplan Industry Projects (KIP)

SEA recognises the growing demand for skilled talent. The Kaplan Industry Project (KIP) provides students with hands-on experience by tackling industry-specific problem statements. Through teamwork, students develop practical solutions, exchange best practices, and gain insights into real-world business challenges.

KIP enhances employability by equipping students with essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking—key competencies for future career success.

Industry Talks & Visits

SEA organises industry-specific talks for students, graduates and alumni to better appreciate the benefits and demands of the workforce (present and future). Corporate partners are engaged to offer perspectives on workplace training and progression. Students can benefit from industry site visits as they will acquire first-hand knowledge on applications of skills.

Entrepreneurship Talks

SEA engages Entrepreneurs to share their personal journeys. These talks will provide students and alumni networking opportunities, gain insights to run a business startup as entrepreneurs, learn the challenges and demands of being an entrepreneur. This, we believe widens our students’ career aspirations.

Murdoch EDGE (Entrepreneurship Development & Graduate Employment) is a Murdoch University and KHEA initiative. It aims to inspire aspiring Murdoch students to acquire entrepreneurship skills to become entrepreneurs and participate in various employability-related activities. Murdoch EDGE organises an entrepreneurship boot camp that equips participating students with essential skills to set up their own businesses.

Career Planning / Advisory

Career planning and advisory services are provided to students, graduates and alumni through SEA’s career coaches. Coaching sessions cover diversified areas of interest, including career planning, career clarity, creating job options and discovering transferable skills. Coaching sessions are either one-to-one or group sessions. At career advisory sessions, coaches’ profile and guide them to exploring their work interests and job options.

Career Fairs

Another effort for job matching for graduates will be through the annual Career Fairs with potential employers.

Career Fairs are organised to provide graduating students and alumni on-the-spot interview options with hiring organisations. SEA career coaches are on hand to offer support and guidance to students, graduates and alumni.

Career Seminars

Career Seminars are held periodically at KHEA campuses or virtually to connect graduates with potential employers to understand the scope of work and job requirement and submit resumes.

Work Experiences

Internship opportunities become available to students as they arise, and they do not earn academic credits. These internships provide valuable industry exposure to local students at KHEA. For graduating students, participating in these internships presents an excellent chance to build connections with potential employers.

Career Portfolio Workshops

SEA guides students to create professional Career Portfolios. Students can attend Career Portfolio workshops to generate functional resumes, gain tips for interviews, knowledge on job search strategies and networking advice.

LinkedIn Workshops

Through LinkedIn workshops, students will create professional profiles and connect with industry professionals. We believe competency in professional learning, including social etiquette and managing online presence are essential for a graduate’s professional life. The students, with assistance from SEA, are equipped with the knowledge of building their online professional presence through attending LinkedIn workshops as part of their freshmen orientation. LinkedIn is a professional networking platform.

MasterClass

SEA invites subject matter experts and industry practitioners to conduct Masterclasses. Students become aware of trending industry insights, gain valuable advice and professional techniques to improve performance strategies for specific work areas. Some of these trainers at Masterclasses are members of Kaplan Industry Advisory Board.

Recruitment Talks

At Kaplan, recruitment talks are organised with potential hiring employers. Graduating students and alumni are invited to network, enquire about the job openings offered, and submit resumes directly to hiring employers.
