Mr Phillip Bashford

Head of English & Academic Learning

 

Mr Phillip Bashford is an experienced teacher, teacher trainer, and academic manager who has worked in many countries including Singapore, South Korea, Tunisia, Cambodia, Russia, Thailand, and Angola. Phillip is a materials/course designer for both face-to-face and online courses. In addition, he has held several management roles, including Head of Adult Course Programmes at British Council Singapore, Corporates and Operations Manager at British Council Dubai, and Senior Academic Manager at British Council Tunisia.

Phillip has worked with several organisations in a full-time and consultancy capacity on numerous training initiatives. These include design and delivery of blended, online, and face-to-face teacher training programmes for inexperienced and in-service teachers, in addition to materials and curriculum design projects.

Phillip has extensive experience in both the state and private sector as a teacher of English. He has taught adults on a range of courses including General and Business English, English for Academic Purposes, and English for Specific Purposes, alongside a range of exam classes.  

His particular areas of expertise are developing teachers’ skills to deliver communicative, learner-centred lessons, developing learners’ writing skills in a range of contexts, improving learners’ knowledge and production of accurate grammar and pronunciation, and designing materials that encourage contextualised and meaningful interaction in the classroom.  

Phillip is a specialist in developing communicative competences in both speaking and writing, grammar and pronunciation, and teacher training for new and in-service teachers.
