    The Degree programme will help you to understand the role of biomechanics, nutrition, physiology and psychology in Sports and Exercise Science. In view of Singapore’s focus on competitive and leisure sports development, this Degree programme aims to meet the current and projected needs for qualified sports professionals. Get a new and exciting perspective on the world of exercise, health, physical fitness and sports.

    Biomechanical principles behind acute and chronic sporting injuries, and how
    they can be applied to prevent injuries.

    Energy Systems
    How and why different energy systems are deployed at different exercise intensities.

    Movement Analysis
    Sports Injuries and Exercise Rehabilitation

    Improve Performance
    The role of ergogenic aids in improving athletic performance. This includes
    plyometrics, speed and agility, endurance and core stability with strength training.

    Reduce Risk
    How physical activity and nutrition can reduce the risk of cardio-metabolic disease.

    The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports and Exercise Science (Top-up) is a Direct Honours Degree programme that consists of 14 modules.

     

    Graduation & Degree Awarded
    Students who successfully complete and pass the modules stipulated in the programme structure will be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports and Exercise Science from University of Essex, United Kingdom.

    The Degree will be the same as that awarded to the on-campus graduates in the United Kingdom.

     

    Honours Award
    Honours in the Degree will be awarded based on the total marks of all programmes in accordance with the university programmes regulations.

    Academic Requirements

    This Degree programme accepts a wide range of qualifications, which includes:

    • Polytechnic Diplomas
    • Kaplan Diplomas
    • Other private Diplomas or foreign qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

    Applicants admitted to the programme may be required to undertake bridging units to fulfil the required prerequisite knowledge.

    English Language Requirements
    • An approved Diploma qualification or higher, where the language of instruction was English; OR
    • GCE O-Level English Language or Literature in English (Grade C6 and above); OR
    • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent; OR
    • Other English language qualifications accepted by the University of Essex, which can be found here.

    In all cases, the final decision on admission to the programme rests with the University. 

    Work Experience
    • When required, the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) process will be applied, on a case-by-case basis, as part of the admissions process for programmes offered in Singapore through our partnership with Kaplan. Any assessment, typically based on evidence of significant and relevant experiential learning, and related admissions decisions would be conducted by University staff and leads to the recognition of the achievement of learning outcomes and the award of University Credit.
