    About the Programme

An education grant of S$2,180 is available to local applicants for the 2025 intakes of this programme. Please contact our programme consultant for more information.

The Master of Public Health programme develops your skills to be adept at assessing, critically analysing, and synthesising contemporary public health theory, policy, and practice to provide evidence-based knowledge in the key public health areas of health improvement, health protection, and healthcare services. It will enable you to apply your understanding of public health to underpin a range of interventions to improve public health outcomes in practice, whether it be within commissioning services, community development in disadvantaged areas, government and non-government organisations, or the voluntary sector in disadvantaged areas. By utilising critical appraisal and reflection, you will be encouraged to challenge your existing attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge particularly in reference to the multi-dimensional determinants of epidemiological knowledge transfer, health and wellbeing, and public health intelligence.

Through the critical evaluation and development of research methodologies, you will be empowered to interpret evidence, and defend and justify public health issues to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. During the programme, critical analysis of models and skills needed for leadership, management and systems-based thinking pertaining to public health and/or healthcare-related contexts will enhance employability prospects. Through independent learning, you will conceptualise and apply theoretical perspectives to complex public health practice or policy to produce a dissertation demonstrating originality in the application and integration of new and existing knowledge, which is potentially transferable within different public health contexts.

I would recommend this programme to others. The programme prepares me for advanced roles on top of fostering critical thinking skills, which are invaluable. The flexibility of this programme, with its hybrid-learning model that includes self-learning, online classes, and physical classes, has been beneficial. The efficient block timetable also allows working adults like me to plan ahead. While balancing full-time work and part-time study is challenging, the programme has taught me valuable time management skills, enabling me to balance my commitments effectively.

I would confidently recommend this programme to my colleagues or friends because, as a student, I know there are two important factors: knowledgeable and experienced lecturers, and well-structured coursework. This Northumbria University programme excels at both, with its comprehensive and high-quality coursework, and a flexible timetable, which are crucial for part-time students like me.

With the research skills I’ve gained, I can see myself advancing my career further as a health policy maker or an epidemiologist. Drawing on my nursing expertise, I am empowered to make a significant impact in the ever-evolving healthcare system.
